Have you ever had the sense of déjà vu? When you stop dead in your tracks and say “Whoa, I’ve been here/said that/heard that/saw that before?" Well, it happens to me from time to time. In fact, the last time it happened to me was over the weekend. We were meeting with three different brides talking about their wedding photography and we mentioned the three most important factors in choosing the right wedding photographer – personality, style, and budget. For a split second I had that déjà vu moment. And thus the birth of this blog post – How To Choose Your Wedding Photographer – was born.
One of the biggest considerations when choosing the right wedding photographer is the photographer's personality. Character is what you are hiring, what you are inviting to your wedding and reception. If his/her images are absolutely stunning but you are uncomfortable or perturbed by him/her in any way, guess what… your images will show it. You know that smile you flash someone who throws a camera in your face and yells "SAY CHEESE!"? Well, we call that the “show me your teeth” smile. If you aren’t completely comfortable with your wedding photographer, that type of smile is exactly what they’re going to capture. We want our couples to be able to relax and have fun every time we are around, whether we are taking pictures or not. This translates into natural looking smiles and great photographs versus fake smiles and over-staged photos.
Another thing to keep in mind is the photographer’s style. Can you see yourself in their pictures? When you are surfing the ‘net, which photographers stand out from the others? Here is something you may not know – no two photographers shoot the same way. The closest they can be is similar. Style is what separates one photographer from the next. When you’re looking at their work, you will see how they see. Do their images speak to you? Do they move you? Are their photographs unique or do they look like every other photographers' work? Can you see yourself in their images? Do the people in the images look comfortable? Happy? Do their images tell a story?
Which images or websites do you find that you are comparing all others against? This is usually the right photographer for you.
This is the last-first thing to consider when choosing the right wedding photographer for you. It is very important and should not be taken lightly, but do not pick the photographer based on price alone. The old saying “you get what you pay for” has never been more true than it is with wedding photography.
So here it is, you searched and searched and found the perfect photographer to capture your wedding day in the style and vision that you want. You find out that this photographer is a little (or a lot) more than you had budgeted. What do you do? Don't give up! Many times the photographer will work with you on creating a custom wedding collection that will fit within the budget you can work with. We put together custom wedding collections all the time for those who want us to capture their wedding day. All you have to do is ask!
WE ARE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHERS
Plain and simple, we are wedding photographers. We love hanging out with couples who are head-over-heels in love with each other as they celebrate the biggest day in their lives. We start each wedding with butterflies in our stomachs because we know the significance of our job and the memories we are about to capture. We would love to sit down with you and hear the story of how your relationship blossomed into a wedding date. We would love to share our story with you about how we can photograph your day and preserve it in a custom wedding album. Are you ready?
